2010 BALTIMORE HERB FESTIVAL at LEAKIN PARK
PRESS RELEASE
Shake off the long winter by planning to spend some
quality time with your garden this spring. The Baltimore
Herb Festival May 29th in Leakin Park is the
perfect way to getting inspired or re-inspired about
herbs and garden-craft. Spend the day shopping and
learning about herbs and plants – your garden will thank
you!
Dill is this year’s featured herb. While the emphasis
is always on herbs, many other plants, as well as herbal
teas, soaps, and garden related items are offered for
sale.
Herb and plant vendors from five states will gather for
the Herb Festival on Saturday May 29th. In
addition to plant and garden related sales,
entertainment will include two bands, free rides on real
miniature steam trains, attending herb and gardening
lectures, touring the historic Crimea Mansion and
walking in scenic Leakin Park. Lunch is also
available.
To get to Leakin Park, take Exit 16 (Rt. 70) off the
Beltway (Rt. 695) toward Baltimore. Turn off on
Security Blvd. Right at first light onto Forest Park
Ave. Right at next light onto Windsor Mill Rd. You’re
at the Festival! Follow signs for parking.
Admission is $5 for adults, children 12 and under free.
Parking is free. The hours are 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. this
year.
The Baltimore Herb Festival was started in the 1980’s to
introduce herbs and their uses to the community, to
introduce new visitors to Leakin Park, and to generate
funds to restore the historic chapel in the park. Last
year, with funds generated from past Herb Festivals,
Baltimore Herb Festival, Inc. provided a new roof for
the chapel. Be sure to check out the new roof while
attending a lecture in the chapel or visiting the
demonstration herb garden next to the chapel!
The herb festival is sponsored by Baltimore Herb
Festival, Inc., a non-profit organization, in
partnership with the Baltimore City Department of
Recreation and Parks.
